Hee Yeong Kim — pictured here with her mother, Pil San Seo (left) and 34th District U.S. Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (right) — recently received an appointment to West Point.

Why should a couple of kids from the Westlake district west of Downtown expect to meet annually in Philadelphia over the next four years?

Because that's where the football teams of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis renew their famous rivalry with the annual Army-Navy game.

Hee Yeon Kim can expect to see next year's game thanks to her recent appointment to West Point. She'll be on the other side of the field from Yechan Kim, a Westlake resident who recently earned an appointment to Annapolis.

Roybal-Allard nominated both of the youngsters, who are not related, for their appointments.

Roybal-Allard regularly seeks to make the full scholarships offered by West Point, Annapolis, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy known to students throughout the 34th District, which includes Downtown, parts of the Pico-Union and Westlake districts, much of the Eastside, and areas of southeastern Los Angeles County.

Call Diana Porras in Roybal-Allard's district office at (213) 628-9230 for more information on the service academies.
