More Than Toys in the Toy District

More Than Toys in the Toy District
9th District Los Angeles City Councilmember Jan Perry, St. Vincent DePaul Los Angeles Council Executive Director David Fields, Urula Hyman, a partner in Latham & Watkins LLP, NCIS star Pauley Parette, and Deputy Mayor Aileen Adams all pitched in for the grand opening of the computer lab.

Pauley Parette, a star of the NCIS television show, joined public officials, non-profit representatives, and contributors who gathered for a June 16 ribbon cutting at the new Computer Learning Center at the St. Vincent's Cardinal Manning Center in the Toy District of Downtown Los Angeles.

The Manning Center provides shelter and social services to homeless individuals from throughout the Downtown area, including the adjacent Skid Row district. The new facility includes 10 computers and will be staffed by volunteers. A Skills Improvement Program will offer certificate-level coursework for those in need of training in basic computer use.

The center will also provide homeless individuals a place to check e-mail, send out resumes, and research opportunities via the Internet.
