Outside the Ring: Mayweather Apologizes for Racist Rant Against Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather, Jr., recently apologized for his 10-minute, profanity-laced and racially charged tirade against Manny Pacquiao, claiming he was "just having fun" in a live Ustream video posted sometime around midnight on September 3.

"I do want to apologize for the other night," Mayweather said later, after his comments touched off a blowback of public opinion. "A lot of people were saying I made racist comments, but anybody that knows me knows that I don't have a racist bone in my body. I have nothing but love in my heart. [To] anybody affected by what I said, I apologize as a man."

Mayweather could be seen in the video with his "boys" at an undisclosed location. The boxer — who has seen negotiations for a big-money fight against Pacquiao break down twice over the past year — showed off a diamond-encrusted watch and bracelet and flashed fans of hundred dollar bills while mixing with some fans.

Mayweather brushed his friends aside at one point, starting into webcam for a "heart to heart with my fans." He went on to assert that Pacquiao uses performance-enhancing drugs, called him a "yellow chump," and said that after he defeats him in the future "I'll make that mother f — — - make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice."

"That motherf — — - Pacquiao, he can't speak no English, he ain't never seen a contract he didn't like," Mayweather said.

Mayweather's remarks appeared to blend a mix of insults that are common toward Asians, although more specific references didn't add up. His remarks about sushi, for example, appeared aimed at Japanese culture. Pacquiao is a Filipino.

Mayweather said that he plans to go on vacation for about a year, adding that as soon as he gets back "we're going to cook that little yellow chump," referring to Pacquiao once again. "Once I kick the midget's ass, I don't want you all to jump on my d — -. So you all better get on the bandwagon now."

Pacquiao, meanwhile, said that he heard of Mayweather's remarks while taking part in a three-city promotional tour for his November bout against Antonio Margarito. He dismissed Mayweather's tirade with little direct language and little fanfare.

"I just heard about that, but I didn't see the video," Pacquiao told the Associated Press at Dallas Cowboys stadium, where his fight with Margarito will take place. "But it's an uneducated message."

The video has nevertheless riled up some fight fans, including many who have filled Internet message boards with responses and clamoring for a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout.

Mayweather hasn't backed off when it comes to comments about the abilities of the two fighters in the ring.

"He thinks he's one of the best but I am the best," Mayweather said in a subsequent video. "For all you Pacquiao fans, stand behind him, believe that he's going to win. All 31 of my other opponents have believed they would win but it didn't happen. I believe in my skills [and] I believe in my talents."
